Orca whales communicate with eachother using sounds. The two basic communication methods are echolocation and vocalization.
- Echolocation - When using echolocation, orcas make a sound and then wait to see how quickly the sound waves come back to them. This helps them determine if an object is close or far away. It also helps them determine if the object is large or small.

- Vocalization - Vocalizations are the other sounds that orcas make. Vocalizations may include whistles or clicking sounds. Each Orca family uses unique vocalizations. These help the family members locate one another.
